Austrian Special Forces soldiers fast rope down from Sikorsky Black Hawk helicopters using Fast Rope Insertion/Extraction System (FRIES).
 
 
The second part of FRIES is the extraction of soldiers from the ground. A single rope is attached to the Blackhawk helicopter and lowered down. A series of rings on the rope allow the personnel on the ground, all wearing special harnesses, to clip onto the rope. Up to 8 fully-laden soldiers can be lifted off the ground and carried away using FRIES. This method is also called SPIES (Special Patrol Insertion & Extraction System).

The Sikorsky MH-60T Medium Range Recovery Helicopter is a USCG upgrade of the Sikorsky HH-60J Jayhawk helicopter. This avionics and capabilities upgrade is part of the US Coast Guard's Integrated Deepwater System Program and will provide a glass cockpit, an enhanced electro-optic/infrared sensor system as well as a radar sensor system and airborne use of force capability.
